Sunk Loto Returns New Single 'Dead Shadows' and Tour Dates

Previously on… Sunk Loto

Gold Coast metal institution Sunk Loto are returning to live stages this August for their first shows since 2023 — and they’re bringing a crushing new single with them. Dead Shadows drops May 8, and the band will be hitting Crowbar in Brisbane and Sydney, plus the Corner Hotel in Melbourne. Three dates. East coast only. You already know what to do.

If you weren’t around for the early 2000s Australian heavy scene, here’s the short version: Sunk Loto were mentioned in the same breath as Sevendust, Korn and Deftones, and they earned it. They were instrumental in shaping the heavier end of the local alternative landscape for a solid decade before going dark in 2007 — fifteen years of silence that felt, for a lot of people, like a permanent exit.

Then 2022 happened.

They came roaring back and picked up exactly where they left off. Two sold-out national tours. Old fans losing their minds. New fans discovering what they’d been missing. The kind of reunion that makes you wonder why you ever doubted it. First new music in twenty years arrived in the form of The Gallows Wait — which, if you needed any reassurance that the ferocity hadn’t been diluted, was about as subtle as a freight train. It was not subtle. It was exactly right.

‘Dead Shadows’ and What’s Coming

Dead Shadows lands May 8, and it’s coming with a full band performance music video — the first clip featuring the band since 2003. It was filmed by rising videographer Colin Jeffs, and if the single is anything like what The Gallows Wait set up, you should be paying attention.

The band on the upcoming run of shows:

“We’re going to be playing a spread of old and new, songs we haven’t played live in years, our new single and more from the forthcoming release. We can’t wait, see you there!”

There’s a new record incoming. Dead Shadows is the first glimpse. These shows are the preview:

Why You Should Actually Go

Here’s the thing about this tour. Crowbar Brisbane, Crowbar Sydney, Corner Hotel Melbourne — these are intimate rooms. No barriers. No enormous production separating you from the music. Just the band, the crowd, and whatever twenty-plus years of repressed energy sounds like when it finally gets a stage again. If the sold-out runs from 2022 proved anything, it’s that people couldn’t get enough of it. These shows will go the same way. Possibly faster.

Don’t be the person reading about this in September wishing they’d bought a ticket in April.
