Symbie gets his own One-Shot
It seems that Marvel writers are always spinning a new web of reasons why they need to expand the lore of Spider-Man. Enter: Symbie. An upcoming one-shot comic book set in the Spider-Man universe, introducing a brand-new symbiote, who is really just a mischievous and adorable glob of goo.
Spider-Man met this weird little monster in space but had no idea of the little symbiote’s history. So, consider this comic book an origin story. One which takes us back to the very beginning of the Klyntar race that led to fan-favourites Venom and Carnage. With a particular emphasis on Symbie’s misadventures and some brand-new symbiote lore rumoured to be revealed.
Originally created by the “Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends” show team for the hit Disney Jr. series, Symbie has been popping up all over Marvel comics since his debut in Amazing Spider-Man #11 written by Joe Kelley and drawn by Pepe Larraz.
On introducing Symbie to comic readers, Kelly shared:
“From the moment I saw the Symbie design from the Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends show team, I was giddy – both because he’s adorable and also oddly… sinister. There’s something intriguing about a symbiote in the Marvel Universe that runs around without a host… it’s weird and unnerving, right? Even when it’s adorable, maybe moreso because it’s adorable. That is a fun character – layered and built to subvert expectations. Much like Symbie himself, this book is funny, layered, surprisingly dark, and flat out weird. It’s a blast.”
