Charlie Adlard and ‘Of the Earth’
If you’ve been sleeping on the Image Comics solicitations, wake up – because Of the Earth just became one of the most anticipated books of 2026.
Legendary Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard is making his triumphant return to single issue storytelling this May, and he’s bringing one hell of a team with him. Joining Adlard are co-writers Chris Condon (That Texas Blood) and newcomer Andrew Ehrich, colorist Pip Martin (Everything Dead & Dying), letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, and designer Mike Tivey.
This six-issue miniseries launches from Image Comics on May 20th.
So What’s It Actually About?
The story follows Tabitha ‘Tabby’ Black, a woman fleeing a messy life to return to her quiet hometown of Solitude, Texas, hoping to find comfort in her Gramma’s home where she was raised. Naturally, home isn’t quite what she remembers. And neither is Gramma.
Atmospheric, character-driven, and dripping in dread – this is giving very much John Carpenter’s The Thing meets Blood Simple, which is exactly how Condon himself described it. An eco-horror story with a neo-noir tinge and what sounds like some seriously unsettling small-town secrets?
Yes please.

The Creative Team Alone Is a Reason to Be Excited
Adlard has been candid about how much he wanted to work with Condon, citing his collaborations with Jake Phillips as the catalyst. And Condon’s enthusiasm for the project is infectious – calling it “an atmospheric, terror-soaked excursion into the unknown” and describing Adlard as a flat-out legend (hard to argue with that).
What’s also worth highlighting is the spotlight on Andrew Ehrich, a newcomer to comics who Condon speaks about with obvious warmth. Every great industry veteran was a debut once, and having your first credit alongside Adlard and Condon is a pretty spectacular way to arrive.

Cover Variants
Of the Earth #1 ships with two covers – Cover A by Adlard himself, and a Cover B by That Texas Blood collaborator Jacob Phillips. Both are going to look stunning on a shelf, just saying.
Of the Earth #1 hits comic shops on May 20, 2026, with digital availability on Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.
This one is going straight on the pull list.
